World Without End

Incomplete poem...you haunt me

Dear Samson my love, does fire harm your soul,
Or ice dethrone your locks, abounding from your crown,
What hair that hangs so elegant in sevens?
My love, my love. Allow me passage.
Unbolt your gates, take hold the hounds,
Those slavering beasts which stand guard.
Let me in my Samson, so I may know your heart.

Delilah sweet flame, Ice holds no grip.
Though burned is my soul, no harm do I take.
My Delilah, my love who shines bright as day
My heart is in embers; it smolders in red.

--Unfinished poem I found in my journal. I meant for it to be a whole dialogue between Samson and Delilah, with many stanzas. I might sit down and finish it one of these days. Why is it so hard for me to finish things I begin writing?!

Ramblings pt. 1

So it's been a bit since I logged something here last. I've got a couple of things I've been thinking about however, and I'm going to try and write them down consistently now. I'm also thinking of starting a separate blog for a story I've been working on for a while so look out for that y'all. Anyways...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How often I think that if I could simply remove myself from all worldly temptations, or they from me, my holiness (however small) would remain intact.
However, this is not so, because it is too worldly and overly simple a solution to a more fundamental problem. And although I must flee temptation, there comes a point where I must face it, and no amount of distancing myself will conclude in victory. Therefore, a deeper weapon resides for me to fight with. I must take up my crown of humility, which is very likely not a crown of earthly splendor at all. It is, in all likeliness, more of a tarnished helmet.
Take for example the soldier who fights for his King. He wears his helmet for protection, not for glory. However, his helmet represents something, or rather the style and make of his helmet point to where he is from and ultimately who he fights for. In this way, in victory the glory is given to the king when people look at the victor's armor and say, "These are the Macedonians, and they fought and conquered for Phillip."
In the same way, I must wear my humble crown, my tarnished helmet, so that I may be protected and have victory. However, just like the soldiers, my humbleness must point to the king I serve and give him the glory. For soldiers do not wear helmets to bring themselves glory, but out of a necessity to live and to conquer the enemy. Likewise, I should wear my humbleness in order that my death to self will cause Christ to become my reason to fight and that this humility will protect me and ultimately give glory to God in victory rather than myself. For I could not have conquered without remaining humble and admitting that I am weak without Christ.
Therefore, we must take up our tarnished helmets and fight for a glory that is not our own. It is only then, in this way of thinking, that victory will be had time and time again.

Fly away

I am the eagle, I live in high country
In rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky
I am the hawk and there's blood on my feathers
But time is still turning they soon will be dry
And all of those who see me, all who believe in me
Share in the freedom I feel when I fly

-The Eagle and the Hawk by John Denver

I just want to stop studying and go outside. It's no help listening to John Denver sing about the mountains and awesome outdoors.

Trundle this way Black Jack

London, Oh greying london,
How fogging tempest does declare
My fainting apprehension,
To wander midst your fare.
'Allo my fairest lady.
How I thrander through your muck.
Grandeur ne'er more spotty,
Though with pocket in my luck.

Last Thursday I registered for classes next Fall. I'm taking Intro to Roman Archaeology, Advanced Hebrew, Bio for non majors, and Law, Society, Novel in 19c Brit! I'm so freaking excited about reading 19th century British Literature that has a focus in law and society!!! Adam Bede, Wuthering Heights, Dicken's Bleak House, and other awesome novels.

Also, Corey's birthday weekend pics will be up soon hopefully. Anyways, I have to go study for my Hebrew final tomorrow. להתראות (bye)

I want a dog, a porch, and a rocking chair.

Of dusty coloured, boldish thoughts,
Dost thou not think and dwell this morn.
Oh that quite silent, dim rocker rots,
As pen quite rolicks, tampers, fastly jots.
Be ever sure not to wake in scorn,
He that slumbers, frightf’ly slumbers dreams,
So as to wile way the Capricorn.
Wake! Awake! snaps rocker’s seams,
In groaning Petrarch whine the beams.
Oh foul is such that stirs the lord,
Of sky and ground, of squirrel and dreams,
So quickly cut from his river fjord.
Reach out and still the loathsome sound.
For drowsing is the flop-eared hound.

So I'm trying to study Nutrition right now but instead got sidetracked by this poem I've been working on, and this video by M. Ward.

An Attic for a Brain

"A man should keep his little brain attic stocked with all the furniture that he is likely to use, and the rest he can put away in the lumber-room of his library, where he can get it if he wants it."

So I've been reading a lot of Sherlock Holmes lately which I must say has been quite a relief from the day to day grind. Its nice to escape to some place where a clever man smokes his pipe and deduces the nature of a man from the cigar ash on his coat sleeve. Romanticism will always be near and dear to my heart and there's just something about the detective novel that fills my head with lofty aspirations of how a simple gesture of the hand, a quaint orange fleck on the shoe, or perhaps a mis-trimmed beard can mean beautifully deep connections to lives.

Anyways, I believe a Spring Break recap is in order since I have failed to record my adventures here. Well, I went to New Mexico with my family and visited my dad's cousin on her ranch. It snowed almost a foot! The snow is probably my favorite thing God ever made. (Next to Andrea =P) Then we went to Santa Fe and skied a lot and just chilled. Here's some pretty sweet photos of our trip.
